Which problem are you trying to solve?
Giving Clean drinking bottle water to sub saharan countries, 3rd world nations, disaster survivors and refugees.
How are you going to solve the problem?
Project OMI is a mobile water bottle filter for the first worlder going to the third world, and was primarily developed
for the third worlder with no access to clean water.
What is the impact of your project?
It will fit over any 28mm bottle top; which is the standard in west africa and most of the 3rd world. Allowing anyone
anwhere with a bottle attach the straw and get clean water instantly.
How can the project be manufactured in the OpenLab?
It is going to be a 3d printed product, so we need high quality machines to provide perfect dimensions and impeccable
seals.
Describe your project in detail
Did you know that 57% (or more) of Sub Saharan Africa doesn't have access to clean water? that is a scary number,
it means 6 in 10 people are drinking poison. In summary something must be done; so my fellow designers and i set out to
do something about it.
In the spirit of enough talk and more action, here is a prototype for a project (fondly called
OMI) that has been in the works for a while. Cant go into much details yet but it is patent pending and can clean out
over 90% of contaminants in water.
Project OMI is a mobile water bottle filter for the first worlder going to the third
world, and was primarily developed for the third worlder with no access to clean water. It will fit over any 28mm bottle
top; which is the standard in west africa and most of the 3rd world.
This is a for profit venture to allow more projects
of its kind come from our collective but for every product bought, we will give away many for free (ideally hundreds) so
millions can filter water from a kitchen tap, community well or right out the bottle bought in traffic.
At the moment we
plan to use kickstarter or indiegogo to raise funds and spread the word but we need help with press of any kind (plus
constructive criticism) and funds to take the filter to the next level.
The site will be going live very soon, so
please stay tuned. Enough excuses, lets be the change we want to see.

The idea looks interesting.
Could you tell more about the manufacturing method and the material required?
Will
the patent be made open?
Is the filter reusable?
Best wishes.
reverse osmosis, could you make that easier so we don't squeeze the hell out of the bottle. And how do will take
care of bad ions, especially in African water. maybe you can add an ion exchanger, made of zeolite beads containing
sodium ions. it will make it work wonderfully.
As you
have already produced a prototype (photos), I would be very interested in the experience you made with the product and
how the daily use worked. Do you see any problems or development potential?
Graet idea we hope to see usefull ideas in the reality ..
keep going
proyecto OMI es una gran idea ,son geniales
consideration the cost of manufacturing because we will need to produce large quantities
is a great idea that also could be brought to third world countries in Latin America.
Does it have a kind of useful
life? like (it only can clean the equivalent of 100 liters of water) or is it undefined?
I hope this can succesfully
work.
The best.
countries, the water is the secret of life ! but try to explain more the system of the bottle , wish you good luck .
Wish you the best
