Which problem are you trying to solve?
2768/5000
To facilitate access to digital technology, the kid lab is an introduction to tomorrow's technologies in
working-class neighborhoods.
How are you going to solve the problem?
2930/5000
Through a network of citizen actors of the territory, collaborative workshops are animated for children from 8
to 15 years in coding, electronics and robotics.
What is the impact of your project?
Since 2014, we have trained a little more than 200 children in a popular commune in Cote d'Ivoire. Through a local
partnership, we will train a thousand in three schools in the city.
How can the project be manufactured in the OpenLab?
The Open Lab can use the "Kid Lab" as a popular digital education program for social transformation.
Describe your project in detail
Our playful training is part of the implementation of the "Kid Lab", an initiative driven by the Fab Lab Baby
Lab. The Kid Lab, which has been operational since 2014, is an introductory program for the children of the Abobo
community, with digital skills that have become indispensable for understanding the world today, but above all, that of
tomorrow.
This digital literacy program is divided into 3 modules as follows:
First Module: Computer code, the
language of the 21st century
Through a platform specifically designed for this purpose, children will learn to develop
their logical mind and analytical skills
Second Module: Robotics and frugal innovation
The children will learn about
the basic electronic components that will be used to create robots. At the end of this module, they will be able to
automate them through computer programming. The use of cans or other objects of any kind in the design of robots aims to
encourage frugal creation, that is to say a creation based on simplicity and innovation.
Third Module: electronic hack
and inventions workshops
Thanks to the invention kits used in this section, children will learn to transform objects
of any kind into keyboard, mouse or other computer peripherals.
Specific objectives
• Reducing banditry and juvenile
delinquency by using new technologies as a means of socialization
• Give a better image to working-class districts
by orienting, sensitizing and training the very young to the culture of technological innovation, with the aim of
significantly improving the environment in which they operate
• Stimulate creativity and innovation from an early
age by instilling the culture of computer code, electronics and robotics
• To stimulate and encourage citizen
initiatives to share knowledge and collaborative learning in technological innovation.
These trainings are provided by
our network of citizen trainers, who run workshops throughout the program. We will favor an active, participative and
collaborative approach to teaching. To do this, we will base ourselves on:
• software platforms and gaming kits
specially designed for this type of program;
• thematic presentations adapted to children's understanding;
•
group work that builds team spirit
• tests to assess children's understanding
